All of our VCS 2008 Computer packages come with the VCS three-year parts
and labor warranty (unless otherwise noted). An optional 4th year extended warranty is also
available within 30 miles of Virginia Tech University in
Blacksburg, Va. This warranty includes on-site repair, and free pickup and
delivery if repairs cannot be made onsite. Outside the 30 mile
area, depot repair is at our factory authorized repair location at 210
Professional Park Drive, #15, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. A 3 year
"Accidental Damage" coverage - up to full replacement cost of the
computer, is included in all of our packages for 2008. For Notebook
repairs, on-site repair is provided where possible, however, unlike
desktop systems, most repairs on notebooks require the work be done at
the manufacturer's workbench. Free pickup and delivery for repairs
is included, or the computers may be dropped off at the Tech Bookstore,
just a few steps off campus on Main St.
For repairs requiring more than 72 hours downtime, "loaner" computers
(both notebook and desktop) will be made available to VCS warranty
customers on a "first-come, first-served" basis.
Virginia Tech Students: A "Virus Insurance" program can be purchased for your computer.
Primary responsibility for virus removal at Virginia Tech resides with
the University's Computer Support Team. The university provides a
free copy of Symantec Anti-Virus Client and free updates. However,
if they determine that your computer has been significantly compromised,
they will request that the student "scratch their hard-drive".
This process can involve several hours of attempting to save/restore
unaffected data. The university does not perform this service.
It is a non-warranty item for VCS and is billable at $75/hour for an
average charge of $300 per occurrence. VCS "Virus Insurance"
covers this situation for a minimal charge of $150 for the entire school
year for up to FOUR scratch/reloads. Please call
1-800-359-5634 (toll-free) or 951-5150 (local). Accidental Damage:
Accidental Damage Warranty, or Click
HERE for a printable version. Please be aware that you may
already have this coveage thru your homeowners insurance. The
average student generally has from $7,000 to 15,000 worth of belongings
at school (Clothes, Stereo, TV, DVD player, IPOD, CDs, DVD's Computers,
Musical Instruments, etc) - to protect against theft, damage or loss,
parent should look into having these items listed with their homeowners
insurance carrier. Depending on the specific policy, this may
already be included in your coverage, or can be added for a minimal
rider amount. If covered under existing insurance, the student's
computer is already covered for accidental damage, as well as for loss
and theft (not covered under the accidental damage warranty). |
